POA to fight £210,000 fine

PRISON officers will appeal against a judgement which fined their union £210,000 for taking part in protest action.

The POA union has been ruled in contempt of court for a series of walkouts this year and last year over rising prison violence.

The court ruled that the walkouts were in breach of a permanent injunction which prohibits prison officers from engaging in industrial action, as well as the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act.
